چکیده

In the design of optical communication systems for multigigabit transmission rates, a special care must be given to the post-detection receiver filter. A well-designed post-detection filter, effecting appropriate pulse shaping/noise reduction, can reduce significantly the degradation caused by the system impairments. The received solitons occupy just a fraction of the bit period, a feature that decreases the decision circuit tolerant to the signal and timing jitter. It has also been shown that soliton interaction can be reduced significantly by an appropriate post-detection filter [1].

Gbit=s wavelength conversion using semiconductor optical amplifier and optical bandpass filter

A wavelength converter is presented that is made out of a semiconductor optical amplifier and an optical bandpass filter. Error-free inverted wavelength conversion is demonstrated at a bitrate of 80 Gbit=s. This approach can be exploited at higher bitrates. A clear open eye indicating error-free wavelength conversion at 160 Gbit=s is also presented. This wavelength converter has a simple config...

Adaptive Line Enhancement Using a Parallel IIR Filter with A Step-By-step Algorithm

A step-by-step algorithm for enhancement of periodic signals that are highly corrupted by additive uncorrelated white gausian noise is proposed. In each adaptation step a new parallel second-order section is added to the previous filters. Every section has only one adjustable parameter, i.e., the center frequency of the self-tuning filter. The bandwidth and the convergence factor of each secti...

2x10 Gbit/s Quaternary Intensity Modulation Generation using an Optical QPSK Modulator

Two 2x10 Gbit/s quaternary intensity modulation signals (4-IM) can be generated using quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), with unequal modulation amplitudes in two orthogonal quadratures. Two 10 Gbit/s NRZ ASK signals and a QPSK modulator allow to generate 4-IM with the same bandwidth as an NRZ-ASK signal. Measured sensitivity at a BER of 10 -9 and chromatic dispersion (CD) tolerance are –21...

Adjustable Chirp Injection-Locked 1.55-μm VCSELs for Enhanced Chromatic Dispersion Compensation at 10-Gbit/s

We demonstrate adjustable negative chirp from a directly-modulated, injection-locked 1.55-μm VCSEL by controlling the injection parameters. Chromatic dispersion tolerance is enhanced by greater than 10X at 10-Gb/s compared to that of a free-running VCSELs. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (230.2035) Dispersion compensation devices, (250.7260) Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers

Transversal Filter MMIC Design for Multi-Gbit/s Optical CDMA Systems

In this work, the approach of the distributed transversal filter for Optical CDMA systems is addressed. It demonstrates that pulse generation and correlation functions can be accomplished in the electrical domain for multi-Gbit/s systems. The practicalities of the approach were assessed using a state of the art GaAs MMIC process. A innovate transversal filter, which is termed the dual drain-lin...
